About Me:
I'm an artist, a photographer and painter. For the last seven years my primary focus has been making documentary-style vagina portraits, to be published in a book, vagina vérité®–for women, so we can see ourselves for ourselves.
This project has been and continues to be the most meaningful work I’ve ever engaged in. While the tangible result of the work will be a series of vagina-portraits, the core of the project is the so-many stimulating, fun, educational, moving and question-provoking conversations that began when a friend asked me: do you like the way your vagina looks?
To date, I’ve made 72 v-portraits, proud and unabashed, each beautiful and strikingly unique. I am looking to finish up photography this year and then find a publisher.
You can learn more about the project at vaginaverite.com, a space for conversation on vagina-related subjects. Its mission is to provide a comfortable environment for women to relate their experiences, propose questions to explore. Its purpose is to engender respect and appreciation for our bodies by providing access to each other's experiences.
vaginaverite.com is dedicated to the value of individual experience, celebrating diversity and the beauty of all women. While vaginaverite.com focuses on women, it warmly welcomes men.
By day, I am in charge of marketing for a balloon distributor.
Between these two occupations, my world can get pretty small. I signed up with zaadz as a way to meet people involved in other things, passionate about what they do, to expand the range and diversity of conversations in my life, and to challenge me.
Upcoming:
VAGINA FESTIVAL…a visual-audio-performance art experience
The first Vagina Festival took place Feb. 16-18, 2007 at Agni Gallery, Manhattan.
As part of V-Day’s Worldwide Campaign, we presented visual art, music, voice, dance and performance art in a weekend event, and donated proceeds to V-Day and support its efforts to end violence against women worldwide.
Vagina Festival 2008 takes place Oct. 24-26, 2008 at Sage Theater, 711 Seventh Avenue, 2nd floor, between 47th & 48th Streets in Manhattan.
Its theme: conversation, especially the ones we don't usually have. Vagina Festival is volunteer-run and financed by generous sponsors. Proceeds will go to making Vagina Festival an annual self-sustaining event.
